Polly Pollet - Solo Expo: A Brief Encounter

Polly Pollet at SECONDroom Antwerp – A Brief Encounter

How reliable is our memory? And how close can we get to the limits of our recollection?

On February 22, 2025, Belgian artist Polly Pollet invites you to share a fleeting moment at SECONDroom Antwerp. For five hours, Polly transforms the empty room she is given into a space where memory and perception are in constant negotiation - grasping at traces of something that was, or trying to reconstruct something that could have been.

It’s a fluidity and tension that is on full display in Pollet’s practice, which fluctuates between drawing, installation art, and immersive environments Step by step, the boundaries between image, text, and experience are thereby blurred. ‘A Brief Encounter’ puts this aspect of her evolving artistic language in the spotlight, featuring never-before-seen ballpoint drawings that challenge the way we remember even our most cherished memories. Each mark, each line, holds the weight of memory—imperfect, distorted, yet persistent.

Palm Shadows – A Preludium

At the core of this presentation is Palm Shadows, a new series that delves into the impermanence of recollection. Taking inspiration from her time living in Colombia, Polly draws straight from memory, reconstructing a world that continues to live on in her absence and in her mind. Light and shadow slip through layers of imagery, capturing moments too elusive to be photographed, too fragile to be held. This body of work will later serve as the foundation for Pollet’s upcoming solo exhibition at Oever Gallery in Ostend, where these ideas will be expanded into a broader spatial dialogue.

Limited Edition - Sr/Posted

To mark the occasion, a limited edition Sr/Posted postcard will be available—50 hand-numbered pieces that distill elements of the exhibition into something tangible, something that lingers beyond the night.

7 PM – Artist Talk: Écriture Automatique, and the Unwritten Image

At 7 PM, Pollet will debut a selection of new texts—words that have long existed within her work but never been spoken aloud. Her practice has always carried an undercurrent of poetry, drawing from écriture automatique as a way of capturing a thought before it settles, before it shapes itself into meaning.

This talk is an invitation into the in-between: between writing and seeing, between intention and instinct, between what is remembered and what is imagined.
